The Toyota Camry Solara Coupe and Convertible are unchanged for 2008, having received extensive upgrades during the last model year. Nine years into its model cycle, the Solara, with its sporty refinement, still offers some of the best value in its segment. Both Solara Coupe and Convertible are available in three model grades: SE, Sport and SLE.
Engine and Performance
All Solara Coupe models come standard with a double overhead cam (DOHC), 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine that produces 155 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 158 pound-feet of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. The all-aluminum 3.3-liter V-6 produces 210 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 220 pound-feet of torque at 3,600 rpm, with ample torque at low and midrange speeds. A five-speed automatic transmission with intelligent electronic controls is optional. The V-6 is teamed with a standard five-speed automatic and features a gated shifter with sequential shift mode to help produce lively performance and excellent fuel efficiency.
Body and Styling
All models feature eye-catching LED taillights and a standard rear spoiler that accentuates the sporty profile. The Sport grade features 17-inch alloy wheels with a five-spoke design and polished chrome finish; a larger profile rear spoiler; and unique chrome exhaust tip. The Sport Convertible shares the Sport Coupe's dark-charcoal interior with black graphite-style trim; and 17-inch alloy wheels; along with the front and rear underbody spoilers and rocker panel moldings.
The Solara provides room and practicality that is surprising in a coupe and convertible. Solara passengers will find ample headroom and legroom in the rear seat, with generous shoulder and hip room in the front and rear.
Safety Features
All Solara models come with a raft of safety features including a direct tire-pressure monitoring system; front seat-mounted side air bags; front and rear side-curtain air bags; four-wheel disc brakes and anti-lock brakes for responsive, reliable stopping power; and vehicle stability control with traction control.
